Winchester Cathedral

Winchester underwent dramatic change with the Norman Conquest. The new Norman Cathedral was begun in 1079 and is still the serving Winchester Cathedral today. In those days the bishop held sway over a huge diocese that stretched from the English Channel to the river Thames.
